Flow

The game of poker has a certain flow to it, and each game will look and feel remarkably different from the next. A great poker player will feel the flow of a table and apply himself or herself to move with it, whether he is playing a poker single table tournament, or multi table tournament. If you ever see a river without any stones or obstructions in its way, you will notice how the water just glides effortlessly forward. Compare that scene to water full of rocks. When the flow of water strikes a rock there is noise, aggression and furore.

When you sit down to play poker you need to understand the flow of the game. Is it playing like a game of happy families? Are there a group of youngsters three and four betting with abandon? Is everybody limping? Is everybody folding? When you understand how the flow of the game is operating you can choose a strategy to deploy in that game.

This is just as true if you are playing Omaha poker online. If the game is quiet with lots of limping and folding then you could be more aggressive, and if the game is aggressive you can be patient and wait for the right hands. But how about trying to fit in with the flow? Instead of going up against it why not try flowing with it?

In a way you are like a jigsaw piece and the game is the puzzle. Trying to squeeze yourself into a space that doesn’t want to take you is just going to end up painfully.
